Renting a motorhome in Ontario is unique from other vacations for one major reason: your vacation is where ever you want it to be!
You can choose to travel from place to place, near and far or pick a permanent location and set up camp. You have limitless destinations once you are behind the wheel.
This can make planning your motorhome rental a big task. Here at Motorhome Escapes we don’t like customers worrying about where they can go, so we have put together a list of some of the most common destination for our customers.
We have split up our Top 11 Destinations into 3 categories: Ontario (Local), Beyond, and Winter. Before we dive into locations for each distance, let’s break down what type of trips each destination offers, starting with Ontario!
Why Renting a Motorhome for Ontario Destinations is the Top Choice
Ontario-based RV trips are by far our most popular… the reason?
WHY NOT! Ontario is huge! Your Ontario trip can span 1.076 million km², hundreds of camp sites and virtually limitless experiences to be had. Ontario is basically an enormous playground chalk-full of provincial parks, vineyards, lakes, beaches, amusement parks, historical attractions, festivals, and more just begging to be explored by road.
You truly do not need to look far to find an amazing motorhome vacation in Ontario. In fact, a majority of our most visited destinations do not even require you to go over your free 100km per day limit!
When it comes to the geography, we won the lottery as Ontarians. We are fortunate enough to be surrounded by the Great Lakes, the Canadian Shield, incredibly beautiful forest landscapes and more.
Ontario is a true heavyweight when it comes to showing off natural beauty. Along with the Great Lakes, the province is home to the world’s longest freshwater beach, as well as the Waterfall Capital of The World. As if that wasn’t enough, Ontario also boasts 2 of the 8 wonders of the world: Aurora Borealis and Niagara Falls.
Because Motorhome Escapes is located just North of Toronto, our customers can save their valuable free kilometres for their trip and save on extra mileage.
This means, Ontario (Local) trips are perfect for families who wish to:
- Save money
- Enjoy a shorter trip (in distance), with less diving and lower mileage
- See multiple places without spending extra on gas
- Explore the wonders in their own backyard!
However, do not be fooled; Ontario can offer a great trip for those looking to put on a few more miles and expand their view of Ontario.

Continuing farther North, there are many great destinations to explore with a rental motorhome in Ontario. Here we will explore our most popular long distance Ontario RV rental destinations.
#1 Algonquin (~400km Round Trip)
A family trip from Motorhome Escapes Canada to Algonquin is a great idea. It can be a great testing ground for a first time renter, an annual tradition or even a great stop on a longer trip.
There are virtually no limits to the outdoor adventures you can find in Algonquin. Check out http://www.algonquinpark.on.ca/ to see all of the amazing things Algonquin has to offer.

#2 Killbear (~320km Round Trip)
Most Ontarians know the name Killbear Provincial Park. Perhaps you didn’t know that it is located on Georgian Bay and is perfect for any avid outdoor adventurer.
Killbear is a beautiful combination of sandy beaches, rock ridges and the beautiful pines of the Canadian Shield. More uniquely, Killbear is known for having the perfect conditions for sailing and windsurfing!
Don’t forget to catch the famous Georgian Bay sunsets while you’re there. Check out more details at their web site. http://www.ontarioparks.com/park/killbear

#4 Pancake Bay Provincial Park (~1,350km Round Trip)
Pancake Bay has received the approval of many customers and my own parents! This trip is further than our other recommendations but well worth the drive.
What makes Pancake Bay so special? Perhaps it’s the over 3 kilometre of pristine sand beach, paired with Caribbean blue water! Or maybe the panoramic view of Lake Superior from the Edmund Fitzgerald Lookout hiking trail.
Whatever it is, Pancake Bay comes highly recommended from Motorhome Escapes customers, take a look and find out for yourself! http://www.ontarioparks.com/park/pancakebay
Beyond Ontario: Top Motorhome Rental Destinations
Looking beyond Ontario is GREAT also! Canada is arguably one of the greatest countries in regards to varying landscapes. From our location we have customers that choose to travel long distances in every direction.
Northern Ontario, Western Canada, South to the USA and East to Quebec and the Maritimes, are all destinations frequented by our renters. That being said our most common long distance destination is the East Coast including Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and PEI.
The East Coast of Canada is perfect trip for those looking to see more of Canada while keeping the budget down and not driving across the entire country.
Typically trips like this require between 4,000 and 5,000 kilometers and 10-14 days of travel. What you may not know is that a motorhome rental from Motorhome Escapes for a trip like this can be as low as $1,000 to $2,000 per person for a small family and that is in our peak season (yes that is for the 10-14 day trips we just mentioned)!
The point is that Motorhome vacations are affordable! If you have always dreamt of seeing the East Coast or other parts of Canada, now is the time. We have received a few recommendations from customers for places to see. Check them out below.
The next most common trip that falls in the ‘Beyond Ontario’ category may surprise you. Trips to NASCAR races have grown each year. It is a great family, friends or family and friends trip. Many races fall outside of our peak season and some are not a long drive away. We have had units at many races but Michigan and Tennessee come to mind right away.
Check out what we found for this year below!
#1 Nova Scotia (Starting at 4,000km Round Trip):

Looking for a campground, we have you covered. On the shore of the Northumberland Strait, Amherst Shore Provincial Park offers an attractive woodland setting for camping.
Walking and swimming at the beach are enjoyable pastimes there. The park’s main hiking trail is 2.5 km long and follows Annabelles Brook through the coastal woods out to the unsupervised beach. A walk along the park’s shore reveals distinctive red sandstone cliffs towering 40 feet above the strait. This beach park along this coast, offers some of the warmest saltwater swimming north of the Carolinas. Check them out and perhaps add this park to your itinerary! https://parks.novascotia.ca/content/amherst-shore
#2 New Brunswick (Starting at 3,000km Round Trip):
When we look back on what our customers love about the East Coast one thing truly stands out. It is accessible from Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. The Bay of Fundy is truly one of the most amazing sites in Canada. The spectacular tides in the Bay of Fundy are known around the world. Words are almost unable to describe all the things to do and see here. We have found a great link to start your investigation into this beautiful family vacation destination. https://www.tourismnewbrunswick.ca/See/BayOfFundy.aspx
#3 PEI (Starting at 3,600km Round Trip)
Thinking of heading to PEI by the ferry? Caribou-Munroes Island Provincial Park is 11 km (7 mi) north of Pictou and close to the PEI ferry terminal in Nova Scotia.
A mile-long sand beach offers some of the warmest saltwater swimming north of the Carolinas and the campground provides excellent opportunities for camping, or simply appreciating nature.
Hiking trails can be enjoyed along the shore to Munroes Island. Other activities include bird watching, canoeing and kayaking. Perhaps a stop in at Caribou-Munroes Island Provincial Park is just what you will need before starting to explore PEI.
Regardless of whether you drive or ferry to PEI you will not want to miss Cavendish KOA. The popularity of NASCAR found its way across the Canadian border many years ago. Each year that passes we have more and more customers loading up and heading to the races. Here are a few dates and locations for to consider for your next family vacation. http://calendar.nascar.com/schedule
